William Mac “Will” Jones, 72, passed away May 6, 2006 in Marietta, GA after a long battle with cancer. He was a native of Murray, KY and a graduate of Murray State University.
Will was retired from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. His 39-year career, which began in Monroe, LA 1958, carried him to Ft. Lauderdale and Lakeland, FL, Memphis, TN and Atlanta, GA. He held key positions with Wyeth in sales and retired as an area business director for the southeast United States.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed all sports, especially hunting and fishing, and especially loved the game of golf. A mentor to many, he was also a loving husband and caring father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 48 years, Lillian Smith Jones in 2002. He as the son of the late Carlos Jones of Murray, KY.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Ruby Mae Jones, Wartrace, TN; two sisters, Mrs. Sara Phillips and husband, Roy, Wartrace, TN and Mrs. Gwynn Barber and husband, Phil, Raleigh, NC; four children, Gregg and wife, Debbie, Tallahassee, FL, Randy and wife, Robin, Kennesaw, GA, Elaine and husband Jon Alexander, Birmingham, Ala., and Jeffrey and wife, Allison, Franklin, TN; nine grandchildren, Aimee, Carrie and Laura Jones, Tallahassee, FL, Landon Jones, Lakeland, FL, Carly Jones, Kennesaw, GA, Wes Allison and Bradley Alexander, Birmingham, AL, and Nick Jones, Franklin, TN. He was also survived by one uncle, J.W. Williams, Lynn Grove, KY, two aunts, Mrs. Evelyn Jones, Murray, KY, and Mrs. Mayrelle Clark and husband Fred, Murray, KY.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church, Murray, and burial followed in the Salem Cemetery, Lynn Grove, Calloway Co., KY.
William Mac Jones was a great-great-grandson of Joseph Lafayette “Fate” Erwin (1824-1914) and Maria Anastasia Erwin (1829-1909), and a twenty-first great-grandson of Sir William Irwyn of Drum.
